This gives excellent guidance on writing the personal statement part of their university application (a good personal statement, focused on the course the student wants to study, is crucial in gaining offers).

Some key dates in the university application process:

Thursday 7th July 2011

Students should hand in drafts of their personal statements to their academic mentors (and have completed as many sections of the UCAS online form as possible).

Friday 16th September 2011

Deadline for ‘early applicants’ – those applying for Oxbridge, CUKAS (conservatoire music schools), Medical, Dentistry and Veterinary Surgery. This date is the final deadline for these early applicants to have completed personal statements, UCAS application forms and completed Oxford extra application forms/

Friday 14th October 2011

FINAL SCHOOL DEADLINE for all other students. UCAS application forms to be completed and completely ready for sending. At this time the school’s referee team will put into place the final checks on each application. Assuming there are no errors or changes to be made, applications will be sent approximately 2 weeks after this date. Note – we hope and expect that most students will be ahead of this deadline – the earlier the application is submitted, the quicker it can be sent off and read by the university admissions tutors.
